"SAOIRSE" is Gailge (Irish Gaelic) for freedom. Going beyond simple "peace", which, meaning the absence of conflict, can exist even within an oppressive totalitarian environment, saoirse describes the full freedom of self-determination for which the the Irish people have been fighting for over 800 years.
SAOIRSE is designed to bring current news, as well as an historical perspective of the Irish conflict, to our members, friends, visitors and everyone interested in securing human rights for all in Ireland.
Ireland and its people have suffered under an oppression and occupation that surpasses all others in modern history - oppression and occupation that have been responsible for the systematic extermination of millions of the Irish race. Still, most - even those of Irish heritage, remain sadly unaware of it.
SAOIRSE invites all those of Irish heritage, and all who share in the commitment to human rights throughout the world, to learn more about the Irish conflict, and to join us in our determination to foster a true and lasting peace for all in a united, free Ireland.

Today is a huge day in Irish History. If you haven't heard, the PIRA has formally ceased hostilities. As an "Unbeaten Army", the Provisional Irish Republican Army Council has decided to allow the politicians to attempt a peaceful political solution to remove foreign troops from the Isle of Ireland and work for a United 32 County Ireland. One Island One Country.
All peaceful peoples of the world should welcome this move (as we do here in Kansas) and examine in the coming days just who wants peace and who wants to continue a divided country and a privileged class. It will become evident that the loyalists will continue to place new roadblocks and demands to keep their illegitimate hold on the Irish People.
Please be aware that loyalists will do anything to keep power, including murder of innocent Catholics to attempt to get a PIRA response.
This is an extremely scary time for the nationalist community. Without PIRA to protect their neighborhoods and a history of the police force in collusion and openly helping loyalist death squads, anyone including women and children are targets.
It will be hard for the average American to hear of these occurrences in the U.S. as the media will be used to mischaracterize the truth. If ever we need everyone to pay attention and realize what is happening, THE IRISH PEOPLE OF THE NORTH NEED YOU NOW!!!
Please let your friends, elected representatives and the local media know that now is the time for truth and to support the Irish as they unilaterally disarm to work for peace. Let them know you are watching and we will not tolerate a repeat of the terror in 1969 when our people last disarmed and were ruthlessly attacked.
